Vom Hauptbahnhof Mühlheim ca 15 Minuten Fußmarsch durch die Fußgängerzone und über die Ruhr und schon hat man Schloß Broich erreicht.

From the main station Mühlheim about 15 minutes walk through the pedestrian zone and over the Ruhr and you have already reached Broich castle.

Das Schloss Broich befindet sich im gleichnamigen Stadtteil Broich der Stadt Mülheim an der Ruhr am Westufer der Ruhr nahe der Innenstadt. Die Befestigungsanlage liegt an der historischen Ruhrfurt des alten Hellwegs und ist in Teilen der älteste erhaltene frühmittelalterliche Wehrbau der späten Karolingerzeit nördlich der Alpen.

The Broich castle is located in the same district Broich the city Mülheim an der Ruhr on the west bank of the Ruhr near the city center. The fortification is located on the historic Ruhr ford of the old Hellweg and is in parts the oldest surviving early medieval fortifications of the late Carolingian period north of the Alps.

Die Größe des Heerlagers hat mich sehr überrascht. Jedes freie Fleckchen im Schlosspark wurde für die Zelte genutzt.

The size of the army camp surprised me a lot. Every free spot in the castle park was used for the tents.
