Dubai for the third 17. - 27.11.18

Dieses Mal war die Planung für Dubai etwas schwieriger als sonst. Meine ständige Reisebegleitung Uta konnte aus beruflichen und gesundheitlichen Gründen nicht so spontan zusagen, sodass die ursprünglich geplante Termin erstmal verschoben wurde. Immer deutlicher zeichnete sich aber ab, dass ich dieses Jahr wohl auf ihre Begleitung verzichten musste. Der erste Gedanke war - gut, dann flieg ich eben allein. Allerdings schreckte mich der Einzelzimmerzuschlag etwas ab. Hin und her überlegt, schon nach anderen günstigen Urlaubszielen gesucht, da kam die Rettung in Form meiner langjährigen Freundin Dani. Sie war auch neugierig auf Dubai und schon entschlossen, alleine dorthin zu fliegen. Zum Glück hatte sie noch ein paar Fragen an mich und zwei Wochen später hatten wir gemeinsam 10 Tage Dubai gebucht.

Die Vorfreude war groß und endlich ging es los. Wieder mit der Sardinenbüchse Pegasus, zusätzlich zu drei Stunden Aufenthalt in Istanbul auch noch ein verspäteter Weiterflug, aber schließlich erreichten wir unser Ziel mit knapp zwei Stunden Verspätung doch noch.

Voller Freude stürmte ich aus dem Flughafen - und erstarrte. Was war das? Statt der erwarteten, angenehmen Wärme erwartete mich tropische Hitze. Morgens gegen 5.00 Uhr war es noch ziemlich heiß und unerträglich schwül. Innerhalb von Minuten waren die Klamotten feucht. So ein Klima hatte ich in Dubai noch nie erlebt. Erstmal mit dem Taxi in das angenehm klimatisierte Hotel, schnell Koffer auspacken und ein paar Stunden schlafen.

This time, the planning for Dubai was a bit more difficult than usual. My permanent travel companion Uta could not promise so spontaneously for professional and health reasons, so that the originally planned appointment was postponed first. But it became clearer that I probably had to do without her companion this year. The first thought was - well, then I fly alone. However, the single supplement scared me a little. Thinking back and forth, looking for other cheap holiday destinations, then came the rescue in the form of my longtime girlfriend Dani. She was also curious about Dubai and determined to fly there on her own. Luckily she had a few questions for me and two weeks later we booked 10 days Dubai together.

The anticipation was great and finally it started. Again with the sardine raven Pegasus, in addition to three hours stay in Istanbul also a late onward flight, but finally we reached our destination with just under two hours delay.

Full of joy, I stormed out of the airport - and froze. What was that? Instead of the expected, pleasant warmth tropical heat awaited me. It was still pretty hot and unbearably humid in the morning around 5 o'clock. Within minutes, the clothes were wet. Such a climate I had never experienced in Dubai. First by taxi in the pleasant air-conditioned hotel, quickly unpack suitcases and sleep a few hours.

Day 1

Nach nur wenigen Stunden Schlaf siegte die Unternehmungslust und wir standen auf. Dubai wollte entdeckt werden. Doch zuerst auf die Dachterrasse unseres Hotels, bei unserer Ankunft war sie leider geschlossen. Herrlicher Blick auf Downtown Dubai und den Burj Khalifa.

Überhaupt hatten wir wieder ein sehr schönes Hotel, großes Zimmer, großes Badezimmer, alles sauber. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Einziger Nachteil - mit gut 30 Minuten Fußmarsch definitiv zu weit weg von der nächsten Metrostation. Dafür aber sehr zentral gelegen und zum Glück hatte das Hotel einen Shuttle - Bus zur Dubai - Mall, der auf Wunsch auch an der World - Trade -Center - Metrostation hielt. Außerdem sind die Taxen in Dubai so günstig, dass wir uns für umgerechnet 5 € öfter ein Taxi von der Metrostation zum Hotel zurück leisteten.

After only a few hours of sleep, the entrepreneurial spirit prevailed and we stood up. Dubai wanted to be discovered. But first on the roof terrace of our hotel, on our arrival it was unfortunately closed. Great view of Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa.

In general we had a very nice hotel, large room, large bathroom, everything was clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. The only downside - with a good 30 minutes walk definitely too far away from the nearest metro station. But very centrally located and luckily the hotel had a shuttle bus to the Dubai Mall, which on request also at the World Trade Center metro station. In addition, the taxis are so cheap in Dubai, that we for the equivalent of € 5 more often a taxi from the metro station to the hotel back.

Ziel des Tages war der Duba Lake mit Dubai Mall und Burj Khalifa. Doch zuerst galt es den kürzesten Weg zur nächsten Metro - Station zu finden. Zum Glück war es deutlich weniger schwül als in der Nacht und wir genossen die Sonne und die Wärme und liefen los...und liefen...und liefen. 

Auf halber Strecke änderte ich unseren Plan kurzfristig. Da Downtown immer näher rückte, beschlossen wir den ganzen Weg zu laufen und uns die Wolkenkratzer in Downtown gleich aus der Nähe anzusehen. Wie immer seht beeindruckend und mit jedem Schritt rückte der Burj Khalifa. mein Türmchen, näher.

The destination of the day was Duba Lake with Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. But first it was the shortest way to find the nearest metro station. Fortunately, it was much less muggy than at night and we enjoyed the sun and the heat and ran off ... and ran ... and ran.

Half way, I changed our plan at short notice. As Downtown approached, we decided to walk all the way and take a closer look at downtown skyscrapers. As usual very impressive and with every step. the Bury Khalifa, my turret, came closer.

War doch ein ganz schön weiter Weg. Hinzu kamen die üblichen Probleme in Dubai - keine Fußwege und erst recht keine Übergänge über mehrspurige Straßen. Aber immerhin gibt es inzwischen doch schon einige Fußgängerampeln, sodass wir schließlich unser Ziel mit Blasen und schmerzenden Füßen erreichten. 

Der Burj Khalifa direkt vor uns entschädigte aber für alles. Wir verbrachten den Rest des Tages entspannt am Dubai Lake und bewunderten abwechselnd die Darbietung der Fontänen und die Lichtshow am Burj Khalifa.

It was a long way to go. In addition, there were the usual problems in Dubai - no footpaths and certainly no transitions over multi-lane roads. But after all, there are already some pedestrian lights, so we finally reached our destination with blisters and aching feet.

But the Burj Khalifa directly in front of us compensated for everything. We spent the rest of the day relaxing on Dubai Lake, taking turns admiring the performance of the fountains and the light show at Burj Khalifa.

Day 2

Da hatten wir uns am ersten Tag doch etwas übernommen. Immerhin waren wir rund 30 km gelaufen. Die Quittung war ein übler Muskelkater heute und in den nächsten Tagen. Aber egal, Muskelkater bekämpft man schließlich am besten durch Bewegung. 

Als Kontrast zu gestern stand heute das "alte" Dubai auf dem Programm. Und ich hatte die wohl dümmste Idee des Urlaubs. Da es von unserem Hotel nicht weit zum Meer war dachte ich, man könnte ja am Meer entlang zum Creek laufen, vorbei an den Kreuzfahrtschiffen. Hört sich doch gut an, nur leider gab es dort keinen Weg. Aber der Reihe nach.

Wir liefen also voll motiviert am Hotel los. Am Anfang sah auch alles noch gut aus. Nur wurde die Straße Richtung Meer immer länger, es wurde immer heißer und um uns rum mal wieder nur Baustellen. Irgendwann mussten wir uns eingestehen, dass wir nicht weiter kamen und den ganzen Weg wieder zurück laufen.

Durch das historische Viertel Al Shindagha erreichten wir schließlich doch noch den Creek und gönnten uns erstmal ein leckeres Mittagessen. Das hatten wir uns verdient.

We had taken over something on the first day. After all, we had run about 30 km. The receipt was a bad sore muscles today and in the next few days. But no matter sore muscles are finally combated by movement.

As a contrast to yesterday, the "old" Dubai was on the agenda today. And I had the most stupid idea of the holiday. Since it was not far from the sea from our hotel, I thought, you could walk along the sea to the creek, past the cruise ships. Sounds good, but unfortunately there was no way there. But one after anonther.

So we ran fully motivated at the hotel. At the beginning everything looked good too. Only the road to the sea was getting longer, it was getting hotter and around us again only construction sites. At some point we had to admit that we did not get any further and walk all the way back.

Through the historic district of Al Shindagha, we finally reached the creek and treated ourselves to a delicious lunch. We deserved that.

Frisch gestärkt begann der Spießroutenlauf durch den Textilsouk, wo wir die aufdringlichen Händler so gut es ging ignorierten. Ich würde mich da gern mal genauer umsehen und vielleicht auch das eine oder andere Stück kaufen. Aber bereits ein längerer Blick reicht schon, damit einem der Händler ein paar Meter hinterher läuft. Vielleicht kann ich mich irgendwann mal daran gewöhnen, bis jetzt finde ich es einfach nur nervig.

Danach besuchten wir das Dubai Museum, das sich im Al - Fahidi fort, dem ältesten Genäude Dubais aus dem Jahr 1787, befindet. Hatte ich vorher noch nie geschafft, ist aber auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Zumal der Eintrittspreis bei umgerechnet 0.75€ liegt. Im Untergeschoss wird das Leben nachgestellt, wie es noch vor ein paar Jahrzehnten in Dubai real war. 

Freshly strengthened began the spit route through the Textile Souk, where we ignored the intrusive dealers as well as possible. I would like to take a closer look and maybe even buy one or the other piece. But already a longer look is enough for one of the dealers to run a few meters behind. Maybe I can get used to it at some point, until now I just find it annoying.

Afterwards we visited the Dubai Museum, which is located in Al - Fahidi fort, the oldest mansion in Dubai from the year 1787. I had never done it before, but definitely worth a visit. Especially since the entrance fee is equivalent to 0.75 €. In the basement, life is recreated as it was only a few decades ago in Dubai real.

Das Bastakiya - Viertel ( offiziell Al - Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood) ist Dubais ältestes Viertel, erbaut um 1890 von eingewanderten, iranischen Händlern. Die typisch arabischen Häuser sind fast alle original erhalten, wurden restauriert und saniert und stehen heute unter Denkmalschutz. Auf den Dächern befinden sich die Windtürme, Dubais erste Klimaanlage. Es macht einfach Spaß durch die engen Gassen zu schlendern und an jeder Ecke etwas neues zu entdecken. Ein großer Teil führt direkt am Creek entlang und als Kontrast hat man einen schönen Blick auf die Hochhäuser am anderen Ufer.

The Bastakiya Quarter (officially Al - Fahidi Historical Neighborhood) is Dubai's oldest neighborhood, built around 1890 by immigrant Iranian traders. The typical Arab houses are almost all original, have been restored and renovated and are now a listed building. On the roofs are the wind towers, Dubai's first air conditioning system. It's just fun to stroll through the narrow streets and discover something new on every corner. A large part leads directly along the creek and in contrast, one has a beautiful view of the skyscrapers on the other side.

Day 3

Endlich ist auch das letzte Teilstück des Kanals fertig. Die insgesamt 9 km lange künstliche Erweiterung des Creeks verwandelt die Wüstenmetropole in eine Lagunenstadt.

An dem Teil, das wir schon vom letzten Besuch kannten, hat sich nicht viel getan. Rechts und links des Kanals immer noch Großbaustelle und man darf weiterhin gespannt auf die Fertigstellung warten. 

Heute interessierte uns vor allem das Stück, das an Downtown Dubai entlang führt mit atemberaubender Aussicht auf die Wolkenkratzer und einem kleinen Yachthafen am Ende. 

Leider war es zeitweise ziemlich bewölkt. Schlecht für die Fotos, aber angenehm für uns.

Auch hier gibt es noch eine Menge zu tun, aber ich kann diesen Spaziergang nur jedem empfehlen. Wer nicht laufen will kann auch mit der Fähre durch den Kanal fahren.

Finally, the last section of the canal is finished. The total of 9 km long artificial extension of the creek transforms the desert metropolis into a lagoon city.

Not much has happened on the part we already knew from the last visit. Right and left of the canal is still a major construction site and it is still possible to wait for completion.

Today, we were particularly interested in the piece that runs along Downtown Dubai with breathtaking views of the skyscrapers and a small marina at the end.

Unfortunately it was partly cloudy at times. Bad for the photos, but pleasant for us.

There is still a lot to do, but I recommend this walk to anyone. If you do not want to walk, you can also take a ferry across the canal.

Ein Großteil des Parks liegt direkt am Creek und man hat eine herrliche Aussicht auf die andere Seite. Der Hauptgrund für uns, diesen Park zu besuchen, war allerdings die Seilbahn, die direkt am Creek entlang lief. Das hörte sich doch vielversprechend an. Umso größer unsere Enttäuschung, dass an der Seilbahn keine einzige Gondel hing. Also mussten wir wohl oder übel zu Fuß am Creek entlang schlendern. Die Aussicht war wirklich super, um wieviel besser wäre sie wohl von der Gondel aus gewesen? Wir liefen bis ans Parkende den Creek entlang, um dort festzustellen, dass der Ausgang gesperrt war. Den ganzen Weg wieder zurück? Och nö. Wir fanden am Creek eine Stelle wo wir den Park ziemlich einfach auf inoffiziellem Weg verlassen konnten. Schnell weg hier bevor es noch Ärger gab.

Much of the park is right on the creek and has great views of the other side. The main reason for us to visit this park, however, was the cable car that ran right along the creek. That sounded promising. All the greater our disappointment that at the cable car not a single gondola hung. So we had to wander along the creek for good or bad. The view was really great, how much better would she have been from the gondola? We walked to the park end along the creek to find that the exit was closed. All the way back? Oh no, we found a spot on the creek where we could pretty easily leave the park by unofficial way. Quickly get out of here before there was any trouble.

Day 4

Heute das Highlight - es ging auf den Burj Khalifa hoch.

Und gleichzeitig der Tag der Einkaufszentren. Dubai Mall, City Walk, Festival City, wo uns eine wundervolle Fontänen- und Lasershow erwartete.

Den Tag beendeten wir dann bei leckerem Essen und Bier im Hardrock Cafe.

Today the highlight - it went up to the Burj Khalifa.

And at the same time the day of shopping malls. Dubai Mall, City Walk, Festival City, where a wonderful fountain and laser show awaited us.

We finished the day with delicious food and beer in the Hard Rock Cafe.

Der Burj Khalifa, er fasziniert mich immer wieder aufs Neue. Innerhalb von 55 Sekunden katapultierte uns der Aufzug in den 124. Stock auf 452 m Höhe. Und dann diese atemberaubende Rundumaussicht auf Dubai. Schade, dass die Luft nie wirklich ganz klar ist.

Und leider war es auch wesentlich voller als bei meinem letzten Besuch, aber mit etwas Geduld kam man immer direkt an die Scheiben.

The Burj Khalifa, he fascinates me again and again. Within 55 seconds, the elevator catapulted us to the 124th floor at 452 m altitude. And then this breathtaking panoramic view of Dubai. Too bad that the air is never really clear.

And unfortunately it was also much fuller than on my last visit, but with some patience you always got right to the windows.

Day 5

Neben dem Dubai Lake ist Marina einer meiner Lieblingsorte in Dubai und ein Tag hier gehört zum "Pflichtprogramm" jedes Urlaubs. Der künstliche Kanal mit seinen Yachten umrahmt von Wolkenkratzern, gleich dahinter das Meer, herrlich. Ab nächstem Jahr ist Marina noch um eine Attraktion reicher. Mitte nächstem Jahres soll das weltgrößte Riesenrad (260 m ) eröffnet werden. Ich freue mich jetzt schon auf die erste Fahrt, 48 Minuten soll eine Fahrt dauern.

Wir nahmen die Fähre von Al Ghubaiba nach Marina. Die Fahrt führt die ganze Küstenlinie entlang und man hat einen unglaublichen Blick auf die Skyline, die leider immer unter einer Dunstglocke liegt. Vorbei am Burj Al Arab und der Palmeninsel mit dem Hotel Atlantis geht es weiter an den Hochhäusern von Marina und dem Riesenrad hinein in den Kanal.

Wir hatten uns vorgenommen den Kanal zu Fuß zu umrunden.

Besides Dubai Lake, Marina is one of my favorite places in Dubai, and a day here is a must-do for any vacation. The artificial canal with its yachts framed by skyscrapers, just behind the sea, splendid. From next year Marina is still one attraction richer. By mid-next year, the world's largest Ferris wheel (260 m) will be opened. I am already looking forward to the first trip, 48 minutes should take a ride.

We took the ferry from Al Ghubaiba to Marina. The ride follows the entire coastline and you have an incredible view of the skyline, which is unfortunately always under a haze. Passing the Burj Al Arab and the Palm Island with the Hotel Atlantis, we continue to the skyscrapers of Marina and the Ferris wheel into the canal.

We had decided to walk around the canal on foot.

Day 6

Heute wollten wir zum Zabeel Park, auch für mich Neuland. Da er nicht allzu weit von unserem Hotel entfernt war machten wir uns zu Fuß auf den Weg.

Hauptgrund für einen Besuch des Parks war der Dubai Frame, der sich im Park befand - dachten wir zumindest. Der Dubai Frame hat die Form eines riesigen Bilderrahmens. Mit dem Aufzug geht es zur Oberseite des Rahmens in 150 m Höhe. Dort oben befindet sich eine 93 m lange Glasbrücke. Und ich muß zugeben so ganz wohl hab ich mich darauf nicht gefühlt. Die Aussicht auf der einen Seite zeigt das moderne Downtown, die andere Seite den Creek und das alte Dubai.

Mir rund 11 € ist der Eintritt ziemlich günstig und ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Leider wollte man uns an dem Eingang direkt am Rahmen nicht in den Park lassen - nur mit Metro - Karte. Diese wird mit Geld aufgeladen und man kann damit auch oft Eintrittsgelder bezahlen, eigentlich eine praktische Sache, nur hatten wir keine. Also einmal um den halben Park herum, Eintritt bezahlen und durch den Park zum Rahmen. Nur um dort festzustellen, dass wir durch den Park garnicht an den Rahmen kamen. Also wieder zurück zum Ausgang, um die andere Hälfte des Parks gelaufen und zu dem Eingang, der nur zum Dubai Frame führte. Man kann sich also den Zabeel Park sparen, wenn man nur auf den Rahmen will.

Today we wanted to Zabeel Park, even for me new territory. Since he was not too far away from our hotel, we made our way on foot.

The main reason for visiting the park was the Dubai Frame, which was in the park - at least we thought. The Dubai Frame is in the shape of a giant picture frame. The lift will take you to the top of the frame at a height of 150 m. Up there is a 93 m long glass bridge. And I have to admit I did not feel that way. The view on one side shows the modern downtown, the other side the creek and the old Dubai.

For me around 11 € is the entrance quite cheap and worth a visit in any case.

Unfortunately we did not want to let us at the entrance directly on the frame in the park - only with metro card. This is charged with money and you can often pay entrance fees, actually a practical thing, only we had none. So once around the park, pay admission and through the park to the frame. Only to find out that we did not come to the frame at all through the park. So back to the exit, walked around the other half of the park and to the entrance, which led only to the Dubai frame. So you can save the Zabeel Park if you just want the frame.

Wir hatten später noch Garden Glow auf dem Programm, ein Teil des Parks mit toller Beleuchtung, der allerdings erst 16.00 Uhr öffnete. Also liefen wir wieder um den halben Park zum Eingang und überbrückten die Wartezeit im Zabeel Park. Ein schöner Park, aber muss man jetzt nicht unbedingt gesehen haben.

Garden Glow hatte ich mir so ähnlich vorgestellt wie die im Winter speziell beleuchteten Parks in vielen deutschen Großstädten. Ich hoffte nicht enttäuscht zu werden, da ich an Dubai natürlich höhere  Ansprüche stelle. Außerdem befinden sich im Garden Glow noch ein Eispark und die weltgrößte Dinosaurierausstellung.

Über eine Fußgängerbrücke ist der Zabeelpark mit dem Garden Glow verbunden und kurz vor 16.00 Uhr machten wir uns auf den Weg. Schon sahen wir die ersten Dinosaurier. Sehr viele waren es aber nicht. Weltgrößte Ausstellung? Wohl kaum. Am Steinhuder Meer gibt es mehr.

Wir befanden uns jetzt am Hintereingang vom Garden Glow und der freundliche Security klärte uns darüber auf, dass hier erst um 16.00 Uhr geöffnet würde und wir rund 16 € Eintritt bezahlen müssten. Uns war das bekannt, aber ich vermutete, dass viele Besucher davor zurück schreckten. Großer Fehler. Garden Glow muss man gesehen haben. Netterweise stellte der Security uns zwei Stühle hin. Würde wohl länger dauern bis ein Mitarbeiter die hintere Kasse erreicht hatte. Gegen 16.15 Uhr war es endlich so weit. Dass der Eispark nochmal extra kostete war uns jetzt auch neu, aber wir wollten die Eisskulpturen sehen. Insgesamt kostete der Spaß 27,50 €, aber wenn sich jemals das Eintrittsgeld gelohnt hatte, dann dafür. Ich werde bestimmt bei jedem weiteren Besuch in Dubai immer wieder Garden Glow besuchen.

So wunderschön, ich hatte so etwas zuvor noch nicht gesehen. Und ganz anders als ich es mir vorgestellt hatte. Statt der Bäume und Sträucher waren speziell angefertigte Figuren beleuchtet. Man muss es gesehen haben.

Und auch der Eispark ist den zusätzlichen Eintritt wert. Netterweise bekommt man auch eine dicke Jacke - bei Temperaturunterschieden von rund 30°C zu draußen waren wir dafür wirklich sehr dankbar.

Und natürlich waren die paar Dinosaurier am Eingang noch lange nicht alles. Ich habe zwar schon echter aussehende Attrappen gesehen, aber es war trotzdem ein Erlebnis, vor allem durch die Geräuschkulisse. Ständig brüllte irgendwo ein Dinosaurier.

Later we had Garden Glow on the program, a part of the park with great lighting, but only 16.00 o'clock opened. So we walked around half the park to the entrance and bridged the waiting time in Zabeel Park. A beautiful park, but you do not necessarily have to see it now.

I imagined Garden Glow to be just like the parks specially lit in winter in many major German cities. I did not hope to be disappointed as I naturally place higher demands on Dubai. In addition, the Garden Glow is still an ice park and the world's largest dinosaur exhibition.

Via a pedestrian bridge the Zabeelpark is connected to the Garden Glow and shortly before 16.00 o'clock we made our way. Already we saw the first dinosaurs. But many were not. World's largest exhibition? Hardly likely. There are more at the Steinhuder Meer.

We were now at the back entrance of the Garden Glow and the friendly security explained to us that it would open at 16.00 clock and we would have to pay around 16 € entrance fee. We knew that, but I suspected that many visitors were afraid of it. Big mistake. You have to see Garden Glow. Kindly, the security gave us two chairs. Would probably take longer until an employee had reached the back cash register. At 4:15 pm it finally happened. The fact that the ice park cost extra was now also new to us, but we wanted to see the ice sculptures. Overall, the fun cost € 27.50, but if ever the entrance fee was worth it, then for it. I will definitely visit Garden Glow every time I visit Dubai.

So beautiful, I had not seen anything like it before. And very different than I had imagined. Instead of trees and shrubs, specially made figures were illuminated. You have to have seen it.

And also the ice park is worth the additional entrance. Nice way to get a thick jacket - at temperature differences of about 30 ° C outside we were really very grateful.

And of course the few dinosaurs at the entrance were far from everything. Although I've seen real-looking dummies, but it was still an experience, especially by the background noise. There was always a dinosaur roaring somewhere.

Day 7

Heute war der Tag der Luxushotels, ein bisschen gucken und träumen, was wir uns wohl nie leisten können.Und gleichzeitig haben wir alle zu Land verfügbaren Verkehrsmittel genutzt. Mit dem Hotel - Shuttlebus zur Haltestelle World - Trade - Center. Von dort mit der Metro nach Marina und ein Stück zurück mit der Tram bis zur Haltestelle der Monorailbahn, mit der es dann auf die Palmeninsel ging. Dort schauten wir uns das weltberühmte Altlantis The Palm an. 

Mit dem Monorail wieder zurück und die letzten zwei Haltestellen mit der Tram. Dann zu Fuß weiter zum Madinat Jumeirah. Der Weg zog sich doch ganz schön in die Länge und es wird Zeit, dass die Tramstrecke verlängert wird. Schienen liegen schon noch ein ganzes Stück weiter. Das Madinat Jumeirah ist eines meiner Lieblingshotels, eine wunderschöne, riesengroße Anlage mit eigenem Souk und einem Kanal, auf dem man eine Bootsfahrt machen kann. Es liegt direkt am Meer mit schönem Blick auf das Burj Al Arab. Ein großer Teil der Anlage ist öffentlich zugängig.

Nur ein kleines Stück weiter das Burj Al Arab, das auf dieser Tour natürlich nicht fehlen durfte. Leider kommt man dort nur bis zur Auffahrt.

Und dann kam tatsächlich ein öffentlicher Bus, der uns in die Mall of the Emirates brachte. Mit öffentlichen Bussen hatte ich bisher keine guten Erfahrungen gemacht, aber es gibt sie tatsächlich.

Zurück ging es wieder mit der Metro mit einem kurzen Zwischenstopp am Kanal, um die nächtliche Beleuchtung zu genießen.

Für das letzte Stück zum Hotel gönnten wir uns dann ein Taxi.

Today was the day of luxury hotels, a little bit of watching and dreaming, which we can never afford.And at the same time we used all the means of transport available on land. Take the hotel shuttle bus to the World Trade Center stop. From there by metro to Marina and a bit back by tram to the stop of the monorail, with which it went to the palm island. There we looked at the world famous Altlantis The Palm.

Back with the monorail and the last two stops with the tram. Then walk on to Madinat Jumeirah. The road was quite long and it is time to extend the tram route. Rails are still quite a bit further. The Madinat Jumeirah is one of my favorite hotels, a beautiful, huge complex with its own souk and a canal where you can take a boat trip. It is located directly on the sea with a beautiful view of the Burj Al Arab. A large part of the facility is publicly accessible.

Just a little further on the Burj Al Arab, which was not missing on this tour. Unfortunately, you only get there to the driveway.

And then, in fact, a public bus came to take us to the Mall of the Emirates. I have not had any good experiences with public buses so far, but they do exist.

Back on the metro with a short stopover on the canal to enjoy the nocturnal lighting.

For the last piece to the hotel we treated ourselves then a taxi.

Day 8

Heute ein Tag voller Überraschungen für mich, aber dazu später mehr. Wir wollten erst ins Global Village und danach in den Miracle Garden. Zum Glück hatte ich Abends noch gelesen, dass das Global Village erst um 16.00 Uhr öffnet, also zuerst in den Miracle Garden.

Today a day full of surprises for me, but more on that later. We wanted to go to the Global Village and then to the Miracle Garden. Fortunately, I had read in the evening that the Global Village opens at 16.00 clock, so first in the Miracle Garden.

Miracle Garden - der weltgrößte Blumengarten mit über 45 Millionen Blumen auf einer Fläche von 72000 qm - und das mitten in der Wüste. Ich war letztes Jahr schon dort und sehr begeistert. Da der Miracle Garden sich etwas außerhalb von Dubai befindet und Global Village nicht so weit weg ist, bietet es sich an die beiden Besuche zu verbinden.

Mein letzter Besuch war gerade mal 20 Monate her und dann sah ich mich doch sehr überrascht um. Das sah ja alles ganz anders aus. Da wurde doch glatt mal schnell der gesamte Park umgestaltet. Vielleicht auch zwangsläufig, weil in den heißen Sommermonaten die beste Bewässerung nicht ausreicht.

Miracle Garden - the world's largest flower garden with over 45 million flowers on an area of 72000 square meters - and in the middle of the desert. I was already there last year and very enthusiastic. Since the Miracle Garden is located just outside of Dubai and Global Village is not so far away, it is convenient to join the two visits.

My last visit was just 20 months ago and then I looked around very surprised. It all looked very different. After all, the entire park was quickly redesigned. Maybe also inevitably, because in the hot summer months the best irrigation is not enough.

Global Village - ein Vergnügungspark mit Miniaturbauwerken aus aller Welt. Hört sich interessant an, aber bis jetzt hatte immer die Zeit für einen Besuch gefehlt. Heute sollte es soweit sein.

Zuerst war auch alles wie ich es mir vorgestellt hatte. Der Eingang eine Nachbildung des Kreml, danach in klein die Freiheitsstatue, Big Ben, Burj Khalifa und viele mehr. Aber dann kam die Überraschung. Da war ja noch viel mehr. Viele Länder hatten dort wunderschöne Pavillons, wo sie landestypische Produkte anboten. Irgendwie schon eine kleine Expo.

Inzwischen hab ich mich nochmal schlau gemacht. Das Global Village ist ein Kulturfestival, jedes Jahr von Oktober bis April. Über 75 Länder stellen in mehr als 30 Pavillons ihre traditionellen Handwerkskünste und kleine Spezialitäten vor. Sehr interessant und ein Shopping Paradies. Am Eingang kann man sich Trolleys für die Einkäufe leihen und sogar Träger mieten. 

Mir stellte sich einige Male die Frage - warum war ich hier noch nie? Ich war wirklich begeistert. Mit knapp 4 € ist der Eintritt sehr günstig, aber der Vielfalt an Angeboten kann es trotzdem ein kostspieliger Aufenthalt werden. Aber wir waren ja nur zum Schauen hier.

Das Wetter machte uns dann tatsächlich einen kleinen Strich durch die Rechnung. Es wurde immer windiger und es gab tatsächlich einen kleinen Sandsturm. Knirschte ziemlich zwischen den Zähnen. Da wir schon fast alles gesehen hatte, machten wir uns auf dem Heimweg. Eine kluge Entscheidung. Kaum saßen wir im Taxi fing es an zu regnen.

Global Village - an amusement park with miniature buildings from around the world. Sounds interesting, but until now there was always time for a visit. It should be ready today.

At first everything was as I had imagined. The entrance is a replica of the Kremlin, then in small the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, Burj Khalifa and many more. But then came the surprise. There was much more. Many countries had beautiful pavilions where they offered country-specific products. Somehow a little expo.

In the meantime, I have made myself smart again. The Global Village is a cultural festival, every year from October to April. More than 75 countries present their traditional handicrafts and small specialties in more than 30 pavilions. Very interesting and a shopping paradise. At the entrance you can borrow trolleys for shopping and even rent porters.

I wondered a few times the question - why was I never here? I was really excited. With just under 4 € is the entrance very cheap, but the variety of offers can still be a costly stay. But we were only here to look.

The weather then actually made a small dash for us. It was getting windier and there was actually a small sandstorm. Crunched pretty much between the teeth. Since we had already seen almost everything, we made our way home. A wise decision. As soon as we sat in the taxi it started to rain.

Day 9

Da war er wieder - der verhasste letzte Urlaubstag. Und wie immer kam er viel zu schnell. Und dann begann er auch noch mit Regen. Bis wir Gepackt und ausgecheckt hatten, schien aber schon wieder die Sonne.

Wir konnten uns später davon überzeugen, dass die Dubaier Kanalisation wenig bis gar nicht vorhanden war. Auf vielen Straßen stand das Wasser einige cm hoch. Eine Woche deutscher Dauerregen und man käme hier wohl nur noch mit dem Boot durch die Straßen.

Zuerst schleppte ich Dani nochmal durch die Souks von Dubai. Gold - und Gewürzsouk musste man einfach gesehen, beziehungsweise gerochen haben.

Danach noch ein kleiner Bummel den Creek entlang, vorbei an den Fracht - und Restaurantschiffen. Mit dem Wassertaxi auf die andere Seite, wo wir in einem indischen Bistro unser geniales Abschiedsessen hatten. Was es genau war wissen wir immer noch nicht, aber es schmeckte sehr lecker und das Auge aß auf jeden Fall mit.

Zum endgültigen Abschied zog es uns dann natürlich zum Dubai Lake und Burj Khalifa, wo wir die letzten Stunden verbrachten.

There he was again - the hated last day of vacation. And as always, he came way too fast. And then he started raining too. But until we packed and checked out, the sun was shining again.

We were later able to convince ourselves that the Dubai sewage system had little or no presence. On many roads, the water was a few inches high. A week of German continuous rain and you would probably only with the boat through the streets.

First, I dragged Dani through the souks of Dubai again. Gold and spice souk had to be seen or smelled.

Then a little stroll along the creek, past the cargo and restaurant ships. With the water taxi to the other side, where we had our ingenious farewell dinner in an Indian bistro. What it was exactly we still do not know, but it tasted very delicious and the eye definitely ate.

Then, of course, we moved to Dubai Lake and Burj Khalifa, where we spent the last few hours.

Fazit - wieder einmal wundervolle Tage in Dubai verbracht. Jedes Mal begeistert mich diese traumhafte Stadt aufs neue. Und ich freue mich jetzt schon auf den nächsten Besuch. Schließlich soll nächsten Sommer das Riesenrad eröffnet werden. Auch sonst gibt es ja immer wieder Neues zu entdecken, so wie dieses Jahr Garden Glow und Global Village. Zwei Parks, die ich auch nächstes Mal wieder besuchen werde. Und das Umland von Dubai will ja auch noch erforscht werden. Und Abu Dhabi will ich auch noch besuchen. Und...und...und...Jede Menge Gründe, bald wiederzukommen.

Ich bekomme oft zu hören, dass Dubai doch so teuer sei. Überhaupt nicht. In einem Reiseführer habe ich gelesen, dass man in Dubai für 2 Euro oder für 200 Essen kann. Das kann ich nur bestätigen. Wir waren diesen Urlaub oft essen und sind dazu immer in kleinere Restaurants gegangen, wo auch die Einheimischen essen. Es war immer total lecker und der Durchschnittspreis für Essen und ein Getränk lag zwischen 10 und 12 €. Was ich besonders schätze, dass man die Lage der Restaurants nicht extra bezahlen muss. Wir haben in Marina direkt am Kanal oder im Garden Glow genau so günstig gegessen.

Alkohol ist natürlich teuer. Und Eis. Eine Kugel Eis rund 3 €. Wir haben unseren Eisbedarf dann im Supermarkt gedeckt, die ein ähnliches Preisniveau wie wir haben. Taxen sind unglaublich günstig. Was manchmal recht teuer erscheint sind die Eintrittspreise. Aber bis jetzt war jeder Eintrittspreis sein Geld wert. Ich hatte noch nie das Gefühl zu viel bezahlt zu haben.

Schon wieder nach Dubai? Diese Frage stellt man mir natürlich oft. Darauf gibt es nur eine Antwort - nicht schon wieder, sondern immer wieder.

Conclusion - once again spent wonderful days in Dubai. Every time this dreamlike city inspires me anew. And I'm already looking forward to the next visit. Finally, the Ferris wheel will be opened next summer. There's always something new to discover, too, like this year's Garden Glow and Global Village. Two parks that I will visit again next time. And the surrounding area of Dubai also wants to be explored. And I also want to visit Abu Dhabi. And ... and ... and ... a lot of reasons to come back soon.

I often get to hear that Dubai is so expensive. Not at all. In a travel guide I read that you can eat in Dubai for 2 euros or for 200. I just can approve that too. We were eating this vacation often and have always gone to smaller restaurants, where the locals eat. It was always delicious and the average price for food and a drink was between 10 and 12 €. What I especially appreciate is that you do not have to pay extra for the location of the restaurants. We ate in Marina right on the canal or in the Garden Glow just as cheap.

Of course, alcohol is expensive. And ice cream. A scoop of ice cream around 3 €. We then covered our ice cream needs in the supermarket, which have a price level similar to ours. Taxis are incredibly cheap. What sometimes seems quite expensive are the entrance fees. But until now, every ticket price was worth the money. I never felt like I had paid too much.

Already back to Dubai? Of course, I often ask that question. There is only one answer - not already, but again and again.
