Day 1 Broilers

Unser Hotel befand sich im 5. Stock. Ein wunderschönes, altes Treppenhaus, aber ich war doch froh, als ich den Aufzug entdeckte. Im Hotel führte dann eine ziemlich enge Wendeltreppe zu unserem Zimmer unter dem Dach. Hotel "Upper Room", der Name ist Programm. Es war günstig, sauber, Frühstück okay und die Lage in einer Seitenstraße vom Kudamm genial.

Our hotel was on the 5th floor. A beautiful old staircase, but I was glad when I discovered the elevator. In the hotel then a rather narrow spiral staircase led to our room under the roof. Hotel "Upper Room", the name is program. It was cheap, clean, breakfast okay and the location on a side street from Kudamm awesome.

Da wir noch genug Zeit hatten, gingen wir erstmal ins Hardrock Café. Ins Hardrock Café gehen und mindestens ein T-Shirt kaufen gehört für mich zur Pflichtveranstaltung in jeder Stadt. Nach erfolgreichem Shoppen gönnten wir uns dann ein Bierchen. Ich hab schon bessere getrunken.

Since we had enough time, we went first to the Hard Rock Café. Going to the Hardrock Café and buying at least one T-shirt is a must for me in every city. After successful shopping, we treated ourselves to a beer. I've had better drunk.

Ich kannte die Wuhlheide bereits von einem Tote Hosen Konzert vor einigen Jahren. Für mich eine der schönsten Konzertlocations Deutschlands. 

Kurz vorm Einlass noch ein kräftiger Regenguss, aber dafür blieb es den Rest des Abends trocken.

Das Konzert war mega.

Ein rundum gelungener erster Tag.

I already knew the Wuhlheide from a Tote Hosen concert some years ago. For me one of the most beautiful concert locations in Germany.

Just before the inlet, a heavy downpour, but it remained dry for the rest of the evening.

The concert was awesome.

An all-round successful first day.

Day 2 Museum Island, Nikolaiviertel, Potsdamer Platz

Pergamon Museum

Erster Programmpunkt Pergamonmuseum, mein abolutes Lieblingsmuseum, dem ich eigentlich immer einen Besuch abstatte, wenn ich in Berlin bin. Und da es beim letzten Mal geschlossen war, war es höchste Zeit für einen erneuten Besuch. Der Pergamon - Altar wird leider immer noch restauriert und ist nicht zu besichtigen, aber trotzdem ist das Museum immer einen Besuch wert.

Das Markttor von Milet, ein römischer Torbau aus dem 2. Jahrhundert n. Chr. aus der kleinasiatischen Stadt Milet, begeistert mich immer wieder.

First program point Pergamonmuseum, my abolutes favorite museum, which I actually always pay a visit when I'm in Berlin. And since it was closed the last time, it was high time for a return visit. The Pergamon altar is still restored and can not be visited, but the museum is always worth a visit.

The market gate of Milet, a Roman gate building from the 2nd century AD from the small Asian town of Milet, always fascinates me.

Das Ischtar - Tor, eines der Stadttore von Babylon, sowie die Prozessionsstrasse, wurden in ihrer endgültigen Form von Nebukadnezar II. (605-562 v. Chr.) errichtet. Babylon war die Hauptstadt Babyloniens und lag am Euphrat im heutigen Zentral - Irak. Das Tor war Teil der Mauern von Babylon, die nach älteren Listen zu den sieben Weltwundern der Antike gehörten. 

The Ishtar Gate, one of the city gates of Babylon, and the Processional Way were built in their final form by Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 BC). Babylon was the capital of Babylonia and lay on the Euphrates in today's central Iraq. The gate was part of the walls of Babylon, which, according to older lists, belonged to the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Es gibt unterschiedliche Meinungen, ob solche Meisterwerke antiker Architektur in ausländische Museen oder an ihren Ursprungsort gehören. Als ich vor einigen Jahren in Pergamon war, hatte ich es auch bedauert, dass der Altar nicht dort steht. Bei der aktuellen politischen Lage bin ich allerdings froh um jedes Stück, das in einem Museum vor sinnloser Zerstörung geschützt ist.

Außer den drei großen, antiken Bauwerken befinden sich im Pergamonmuseum noch diverse andere sehenswerte Exponate und es finden oft Sonderausstellungen statt.

There are differing opinions as to whether such masterpieces of ancient architecture belong to foreign museums or to their place of origin. When I was in Pergamon a few years ago, I also regretted that the altar was not there. In the current political situation, however, I am glad of every piece that is protected in a museum from senseless destruction.

In addition to the three large, antique buildings, there are several other interesting exhibits in the Pergamon Museum and special exhibitions are often held.

Berlin Cathedral

Der Berliner Dom wurde 1894 - 1905 unter Kaiser Wilhelm II. erbaut und ist die flächenmäßig größte evangelische Kirche in Deutschland. Und dass er eine evangelische Kirche ist werde ich nie wieder vergessen. Die Bezeichnung Dom, das Aussehen und der Prunk im Innern hätten mich eher auf eine katholische Kirche schließen lassen, aber ehrlich gesagt hatte ich mir darüber nie Gedanken gemacht. Als nun mein Kumpel René meinte, er glaube das sei eine evangelische Kirche, wollte ich es genau wissen und fragte einen der Angestellten des Doms. Dieser entrüstete Blick und die barsche Antwort, natürlich sei das eine evangelische Kirche, mal wieder mit beiden Beinen in ein Fettnäpfchen gehüpft. Das kann ich echt gut.

The Berlin Cathedral was built in 1894 - 1905 under Emperor Wilhelm II and is the largest Protestant church in Germany in terms of area. And I will never forget that he is a Protestant church. The name Dom, the look and the pomp of the interior would have made me rather close to a Catholic church, but honestly I had never thought about it. When my buddy René said that he believed that this was a Protestant church, I wanted to know exactly and asked one of the employees of the cathedral. This indignant look and the harsh answer, of course, that is a Protestant church, once again jumped with both legs in a faux pas. I'm really good at that.

Nikolaiviertel and Alexanderplatz

Durchs Nikolaiviertel bummelten wir zum Alexanderplatz. Zusammen mit Cölln ist das Nikolaiviertel das älteste Siedlungsgebiet der Stadt.

Through Nicholas Quarter we strolled to Alexanderplatz. Together with Cölln the Nikolaiviertel is the oldest settlement area of the city.

Potsdamer Place

Mit 103 m ist das Kollhoff - Hochhaus das höchste Gebäude am Potsdamer Platz. In der 24. und 25. Etage befindet sich die Aussichtsplattform "Panoramapunkt" und obwohl das Wetter noch nicht besser war, war das unser nächstes Ziel.

Eine freundliche Angestellte fuhr mit uns im Aufzug nach oben und teilte uns stolz mit, dass dies der schnellste Aufzug Europas sei. Ich war jetzt nicht wirklich beeindruckt. Schließlich war es gerade eineinhalb Jahre her, dass ich mit dem schnellsten Aufzug der Welt im Burj Khalifa gefahren bin. Aber natürlich sagte ich das nicht.

Bei schönem Wetter ist es auf der Aussichtsplattform bestimmt herrlich. Man hat einen tollen Rundumblick auf die ganze Stadt und mit 7 € ist der Eintritt im Vergleich zu ähnlichen Attraktionen günstig. Eine  Freiluftausstellung über den Wandel des Potsdamer Platzes befindet sich ebenfalls dort oben - interessante Fotos. Ich kann einen Besuch nur empfehlen.

At 103 m, the Kollhoff tower is the tallest building on Potsdamer Platz. On the 24th and 25th floor is the observation deck "Panoramapunkt" and although the weather was not better, this was our next destination.

A friendly employee took us up the elevator and proudly shared that this was the fastest elevator in Europe. I was not really impressed now. After all, it was just over a year and a half ago that I rode the world's fastest elevator in the Burj Khalifa. But of course I did not say that.

When the weather is fine, it is definitely gorgeous on the observation deck. It has a great panoramic view of the whole city and with € 7 the entrance is cheap compared to similar attractions. An outdoor exhibition about the change of the Potsdamer Platz is also up there - interesting photos. I can only recommend a visit.

Day 3 Spandau

Bei unserem letzten Besuch in Berlin waren wir zum Broilers - Konzert in der Zitadelle Spandau. Und nein, wir fahren nicht nur zu Broilers - Konzerten nach Berlin. Aber das brachte uns auf die Idee Spandau und die Zitadelle etwas ausführlicher zu besichtigen.

Wir bummelten gemütlich durch die kleine, aber feine Fußgängerzone in Spandau zur Zitadelle.

On our last visit to Berlin we went to the Broilers concert in the Citadel Spandau. And no, we are not just going to Broiler 's concerts in Berlin. But that gave us the idea to visit Spandau and the citadel in more detail.

We strolled comfortably through the small but beautiful pedestrian zone in Spandau to the citadel.

Als damals der Termin des Broilers - Konzertes in der Zitadelle rauskam, hab ich mir Bilder im Internet angesehen und war sofort begeistert. Die Festung, komplett von Wasser umgeben, hat es mir sofort angetan. Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Großartige Location für Konzerte, aber auch sonst lohnt sich ein Besuch.

Die Zitadelle Spandau ist eine der bedeutendsten und besterhaltenen Festungen der Hochrenaissance in Europa. Erbaut wurde sie 1559 - 1594 an Stelle einer mittelalterlichen Burg.

When the date of the Broilers concert in the citadel came out, I looked at pictures on the internet and was immediately impressed. The fortress, completely surrounded by water, did it to me immediately. And I was not disappointed. Great location for concerts, but otherwise worth a visit.

The Citadel Spandau is one of the most important and best preserved fortresses of the High Renaissance in Europe. It was built in 1559 - 1594 in place of a medieval castle.
